Terms of Service
1. What this is
Geeks in Kyoto is an AI-assisted language learning service operated by Geeks in Cities Ltd ("we", "us"). By using the service you agree to these terms.
2. The service
We provide an interactive language learning service through scenarios, reference material, and AI-generated dialogue. The service is a learning resource for self-directed learners. It is not a certification course, exam preparation, professional translation, interpretation, or linguistic advice. The AI tutor may occasionally produce errors — it is a learning tool, not an authority.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction).
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- One account per person. Don't share accounts.
4. Your content
You own what you type. By using the service, you grant us a licence to store, process, and display your input as needed to provide the service (including sending it to AI infrastructure providers). This licence exists solely to operate the service and ends when you delete your data.
Do not enter content that is illegal, abusive, or that you don't have the right to share. We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate this.
5. What you shouldn't do
- Don't attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or replicate the system prompts, lesson content, or AI behaviour.
- Don't use the service to generate content for purposes unrelated to language learning, including using our AI tutor as an API proxy for Gemini or other underlying models.
- Don't automate access (bots, scrapers) or circumvent usage limits.
- Don't share confidential, sensitive, or identifying information about others in the chat.
6. Paid plans
- Paid plans, when available, will be billed annually through a third-party payment processor acting as Merchant of Record. The processor will be named here once arrangements are finalised.
- You can cancel at any time. Your plan remains active until the end of the billing period.
- We may change pricing at our discretion. Existing subscribers keep their current price until the end of their billing cycle.
- We may introduce monthly billing or additional tiers in future.
7. Refunds
- We offer a 14-day money-back guarantee. Within 14 days of purchase, email support@geeksincities.com for a full refund, no reason required.
- Refunds are processed through our payment processor and returned to the original payment method.
- Any statutory rights you have where you live apply in addition to and take precedence over this policy.
8. Free tier
The free tier is what you get when you are not logged in. It lets you browse scenarios, reference material, and sample the AI tutor subject to demand-based rate limits. It is offered at our discretion. We may change what the free tier includes, or discontinue it entirely. The free tier carries no service level commitment.
9. Availability
We aim to keep the service running but don't guarantee uptime. We may take the service offline for maintenance, and things occasionally break. We'll try to communicate outages but can't promise advance notice for everything.
10. Intellectual property
The scenario content, reference material, map artwork, system prompts, and brand are ours. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from our content. Your learning data and chat input remain yours.
11. Liability
The service is provided "as is." We are not liable for:
- Errors in AI-generated content, including incorrect translations, grammar explanations, or cultural advice.
- Decisions you make based on what the AI tutor says.
- Loss of learning data due to technical failures (though we do our best to prevent this).
- Consequences of sharing personal or sensitive information in the chat, as outlined in our privacy policy.
12. Termination
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. If we terminate your account without cause, we'll refund any unused portion of a paid plan.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll notify you of significant changes by email or a notice on the site.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Scotland, United Kingdom. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Scotland.
